How one garment fits a range

Three mechanics make OS possible. Stretch range: the fabric extends 100%+ in width while staying comfortable. Recovery: high-quality elastane pulls the tube back so it fits the smaller end without bagging. Silhouette tolerance: the design accepts that coverage and compression vary across the range — a bralette or a ruched short can; a precision compression legging cannot. What OS is right for

The economics (why brands love OS)

A 4-size style in 3 colours is 12 SKUs; the OS version is 3. That collapses inventory risk, forecasting error, photography and restock complexity — which is why OS dominates impulse-friendly categories. Against our catalog baseline (62% of styles run S–XL), OS is the counter-model: fewer SKUs, wider per-unit fit tolerance.

The honest limits (say them out loud)

Range edges: at the small end expect relaxed compression; at the large end, higher compression and shorter effective length. Opacity: maximum stretch is the opacity worst case — OS bottoms need squat-proof density at the range top, not on the fit model. Extended sizing: one tube cannot honestly cover 2–24; brands that care run two blocks (OS + OS Plus). Overclaiming the range converts to returns and bad reviews; a realistic chart (with measurements, not just “fits most”) converts to trust — the same logic as our sizing & grading guide.

Spec measurements at multiple stretch points (relaxed / mid / full), fit-check on at least two bodies at the range ends, and squat-test opacity at full stretch. OS removes size SKUs, not fit diligence.

What size range does one-size actually cover?

A well-engineered OS piece typically fits about a US 2–10 (roughly XS–L) with varying compression across that range. Claims beyond that from a single tube should be treated as marketing rather than fit engineering.

Is OS cheaper to produce than sized runs?

Per unit it is similar — the saving is in SKUs: one size per colour means smaller minimum buys, simpler forecasting and fewer stranded sizes. That is why OS suits launches and impulse categories.

Are OS leggings squat-proof?

Only if opacity is specified at the top of the claimed range, where the fabric is at maximum stretch. An OS bottom that passes the squat test on a size-S fit model but not at the range top is a returns problem waiting to happen.

Can OS work for sports bras?

For light-to-medium support bralettes, yes. High-impact support needs band and cup precision that a single stretch tube cannot deliver — that is where graded sizing is non-negotiable.
