Pockets on Seamless Leggings: Harder Than It Looks, Solved
“Can we add a phone pocket?” is one of the most common requests in legging development — and on a seamless garment it is a genuinely interesting engineering question, because the classic in-seam pocket has no seam to live in.
Quick answer: A knitted tube has no side seam, so pockets are added three ways: an overlay pocket (a shaped panel bonded or stitched onto the thigh — the standard phone pocket), a waistband drop-in (hidden pocket inside a double-height band — keys/cards), or a double-layer zone (a knitted second layer forming a sleeve). A phone pocket that works is specced, not hoped for: ~19–23 cm deep, top edge with recovery, and placed on the outer thigh’s low-stretch zone.
Why seamless makes pockets interesting
Cut-and-sew leggings hide pockets in the side seam. Seamless has no side seam — the tube is continuous — so a pocket must either sit on the fabric, inside the waistband, or be knitted as a second layer. Each has a distinct cost, look and capacity profile.

The phone-pocket spec that actually holds
Most pocket complaints are spec failures: too shallow, stretchy opening, wrong placement. The working numbers: depth 19–23 cm (current phones are 16–17 cm tall — the pocket needs margin), opening with a recovery edge (knit-in tighter courses or a clean elastic so it grips, governed by the growth logic in our QC thresholds), placement on the outer mid-thigh where stretch is lowest so a phone does not bounce, and the pocket fabric at equal-or-heavier GSM than the leg so it does not print through. Bounce-test at sampling: 20 squats + 1 minute of jumping with a real phone.

Why can't seamless leggings have normal side-seam pockets?

How deep should a phone pocket be?
